It is one of the most common things we hear at check-ins: “My teeth feel fine, do I really need to come in?” The honest answer is yes, and it is not just about polishing your smile.
What a cleaning actually does
A professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar buildup in places a toothbrush cannot reach, especially along the gumline and between teeth. Left alone, that buildup hardens and starts to irritate and inflame the gum tissue, often with no pain at all in the early stages.
The problems you cannot feel yet
Gum disease, early cavities between teeth, and bone loss around the roots typically do not hurt until they are advanced. Twice-a-year visits let us catch these issues while they are still small, simple, and inexpensive to treat, instead of waiting until a root canal or extraction is the only option left.
It is also a health checkup
Every cleaning includes an exam where we look for signs that can point to bigger health concerns, from grinding and clenching to inflammation linked to heart health and blood sugar. Your mouth tells us a lot about your overall wellness, and a six-month visit is our chance to catch it early.
If it has been longer than six months since your last cleaning, there is no judgment here, just an open chair and a team ready to help you get back on track.
