If you have started researching dental implants, you have probably seen prices that swing wildly from one office to the next. That is not because someone is overcharging. It is because the word “implant” gets used to describe three different things, and not every quote includes all of them.
An implant is really three parts
A complete implant has a post, an abutment, and a crown. The post is the titanium piece that replaces your tooth root and fuses to the jawbone. The abutment is the small connector that sits on top of it. The crown is the visible tooth you actually chew and smile with.
When you see a low advertised price, it usually covers the post only. When you see a higher number, it often bundles all three plus imaging and the surgical appointment. Comparing those two figures side by side is not a fair comparison, so it is always worth asking what a quote includes before you judge it.
What else can affect your total
Some mouths need groundwork before an implant can succeed. If a tooth has been missing for a while, the bone underneath may have shrunk, and a graft may be needed to rebuild a stable foundation. If the tooth is still in place, an extraction is part of the plan. Each of these steps is a real appointment with its own cost, which is why we will not quote you a number over the phone without seeing an X-ray first.
Why implants often cost less over time
A bridge or partial denture usually carries a lower price up front. The difference shows up in the years that follow. A bridge relies on the healthy teeth on either side, which have to be reduced to hold it, and it typically needs replacing at some point. An implant stands on its own without altering neighboring teeth, and it preserves the jawbone that would otherwise continue to shrink.
That does not automatically make implants the right answer for everyone. It does mean the cheapest option today is not always the least expensive option over ten or fifteen years.
Making it work for your budget
Most dental insurance covers part of an implant, though plans vary widely on how much. If you do not have insurance, our membership plan includes 20% off most procedures at our practice, which applies to implant treatment. We also offer Cherry and CareCredit financing so you can spread payments over time instead of paying all at once, with no hard credit check for Cherry approval.
The honest next step
The only way to get a real number is a real exam. We will take images, look at the bone, talk through whether an implant, a bridge, or a denture actually fits your situation, and give you a written plan with the cost before you commit to anything.
